Changing The End Of The Story
Ending veteran homelessness isn’t simply something Jack Downing talks about; it’s what he does. Every day.
As president and CEO of Soldier On, Jack has worked tirelessly to create a new, national model for addressing veteran homelessness. His vision and his passion for serving veterans has sparked this organization to pioneer methods aimed not simply at providing a response to veteran homelessness but offering a permanent solution to the problem.
When Jack speaks, his message is not just about the importance of our work, but about what can be accomplished when everyone within an organization contributes the full power of their beliefs and passions to accomplishing a mission. His message is about buying in, embracing goals and doing what it takes to make those goals realities.
The stories Jack tells are stories of veterans who returned home from service only to discover they couldn’t find a way to fit into civilian life. They are the stories of the lengths to which Soldier On has gone to help those veterans find a way to move forward, to reclaim their lives with integrity, dignity and hope. And they are the stories of the creative approaches to problem solving within the organization that allow us to offer hope and restore the lives of men and women who come to us broken, having lost everything, and often unable to believe they can turn their lives around.
What Jack really speaks about is the fact that however difficult it may appear to achieve a goal, with belief, commitment and buy-in there always comes hope and the ability to succeed.
Jack’s message has application not only for organizations looking to bring about social change but to companies looking for ways to thrive in any economic circumstances. Jack’s focus is on the ways that any company or organization can build teams that never stop looking for new ways to dig in and get the job done — regardless of how the odds stack up.
