Soldier On fosters a sense of belonging not only on our two campuses, but also within society at large. Veterans give back to communities through Soldier On’s public service activities, which take place throughout Western Massachusetts.
In Pittsfield, veteran volunteers grow flowers at the Daniel H. Petithory Greenhouse. These flowers are then donated to projects such as Pittsfield Beautiful, a non-profit group that plants and maintains an array of flowers and ornamental plants at more than 150 public sites throughout Pittsfield. Other bouquets are donated to retired senior programs or families of local veterans.
Other veterans volunteer by providing support at two local homeless shelters, the Worthington Street Shelter in Springfield and the Interfaith Cot Shelter in Northampton.
Soldier On residents also provide volunteer custodial services for the Pittsfield Police Department and assist people who can no longer physically clean their homes, as well as sometimes helping move them to new locations.
