Soldier On will build 44 cooperative and 16 transitional units, including a transitional women’s center, on unused land on the Veterans Affairs Medical Center campus in Northampton, MA. Soldier On is partnering for this project with the Department of Veterans Affairs, who will provide the bulk of the financing through their Innovation Initiative (VAi2) program. The project will feature highly effective modular construction and meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for sustainability.
The former police academy in Agawam, MA has been transferred to Soldier On through state legislation. This building will be turned into 54 cooperative housing units, and has already been awarded funding from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including low income housing tax credits.
Soldier On has been working together with the County of Albany, NY on transforming a former county nursing home located near Albany International Airport. This property will be redeveloped into limited-equity housing for formerly homeless veterans and could contain additional services including a vocational education program for veterans returning from active duty.
Soldier On is working with a large community group to develop 18 acres of flat woodlands in Holderness, NH, outside of Plymouth. This project is intended to provide between 40 and 50 permanent supportive housing units for formerly homeless veterans.
O’Connell Construction is developing the old Chapin School in Chicopee, MA into veterans housing to be run by Soldier On. We plan on housing 40 formerly homeless veterans in this community when the project is complete.
