I was getting out of prison. Right before I left prison, a woman from Bath NY informed me to call Soldier On once I was out. I went from prison to the Buffalo City Mission which was a homeless shelter. I was broke, lost, confused and alone.

Soldier On helped me learn how to save my money through the MMI program. I was able to buy a car and an apartment. I was provided a peer support person who was more like a friend and offered me support and advice whenever I needed it. Having someone to call and talk to when I was feeling down was a huge support which I believe helped keep me clean and sober. It helped me consider situations that arose in my life and how to deal with them appropriately.

I am a little older now but I hope to get a promotion at my job which is at the Buffalo City Mission. I don’t want to retire yet, so I hope to be around for a while and be able to say that I was good enough to get promoted.
